Electrical Panel Upgrades: What You Need to Know

Your home’s electrical panel is the heart of your power system. When it becomes outdated or overloaded, it can lead to frequent outages, safety hazards, and costly repairs. Knowing when to consider an electrical panel installation or upgrade is key to keeping your home powered safely and smoothly.

At FloHawks, we’ve helped countless homeowners upgrade their electrical systems, fix wiring issues, and avoid emergency repairs. If you’re wondering whether your panel needs attention, here’s what to look for and what you need to know about upgrading your electrical system.

Electrical Panel Upgrade

1. Frequent Breaker Trips or Power Surges

If your breakers keep tripping or you notice sudden power surges, your electrical panel might be struggling to keep up. This happens when your home’s electrical needs exceed what your panel can handle. Upgrading your panel gives you reliable power and protects your appliances.

2. Flickering or Dimming Lights

Do lights flicker or dim when you turn on other devices? That’s a classic sign that your electrical panel or wiring might need repair. Overloaded systems can be dangerous if ignored.

3. You’ve Added New Appliances or Rooms

If you’ve recently added new appliances, renovated, or expanded your home, your old panel may not have enough circuits or power capacity. An electrical panel installation can provide what you need to keep everything running smoothly.

4. Outdated or Damaged Panel

If your panel is old, warm to the touch, or shows signs of rust or corrosion, it’s time for a professional inspection. Faulty panels increase fire risks and may need wiring repair or a full upgrade.

5. Burning Smells or Sparks

Any burning smells, sparks, or visible damage near your panel? Shut off the power immediately and call a licensed electrician. These are serious red flags that need fast, expert attention.

Why Upgrade Your Electrical System?

Upgrading your electrical system isn’t just about convenience; it’s about safety, efficiency, and future-proofing your home. Modern panels handle power demands better, reduce fire risks, and help your home run reliably.

What Happens During Electrical Panel Installation?

A FloHawks licensed electrician will:

  • Safely remove your old panel.

  • Inspect and perform any needed wiring repairs.

  • Install a new, higher-capacity panel.

  • Add new breakers and circuits tailored to your needs.

  • Test everything thoroughly to meet electrical codes and keep you safe.
